Beanie Babies are Ty's original 1990s line — small, understuffed plush animals with realistic proportions and the iconic red heart tag. Beanie Boos are a newer line introduced in 2009, distinguished by their oversized sparkly eyes and stylized cartoon-like faces. Beanie Boos are the brand's current bestseller; Beanie Babies are still produced but with a smaller active lineup.
Ty releases new characters and seasonal designs monthly. Major drops happen around holidays (Halloween, Christmas, Valentine's Day, Easter) and back-to-school season, with regular new Beanie Boo characters introduced year-round. Retired designs are removed from production without advance notice, which is part of why Ty has a strong collector following.
Most 1990s Beanie Babies are not worth significant money today despite the collector frenzy of that era. Medium Boos are around 9 inches, large Boos run 13-16 inches, and Jumbo Boos can reach 36+ inches. Not every character is released in every size.
