Beanie Babies are Ty's original 1990s line — small, understuffed plush animals with realistic proportions and the iconic red heart tag. Beanie Boos are a newer line introduced in 2009, distinguished by their oversized sparkly eyes and stylized cartoon-like faces. Beanie Boos are the brand's current bestseller; Beanie Babies are still produced but with a smaller active lineup.
Ty releases new characters and seasonal designs monthly. Major drops happen around holidays (Halloween, Christmas, Valentine's Day, Easter) and back-to-school season, with regular new Beanie Boo characters introduced year-round. Retired designs are removed from production without advance notice, which is part of why Ty has a strong collector following.
Most 1990s Beanie Babies are not worth significant money today despite the collector frenzy of that era. The few exceptions are specific rare variants, error tags, and limited royal releases — and even those require very specific conditions like mint tags and verified authenticity. For most Beanie Babies in average condition, sentimental value far exceeds resale value.
Beanie Boos are made in several sizes. Mini Boos are the smallest at about 2 inches, designed as clip-on or pocket-sized plush. Regular Beanie Boos are the most common size at about 6 inches. Medium Boos are around 9 inches, large Boos run 13-16 inches, and Jumbo Boos can reach 36+ inches. Not every character is released in every size.
